Air to air view of a No. 6 Squadron RAAF F-111 flying in formation with a No. 42 Squadron Dakota returning to Australia. The Dakota was flying a Navigation course to New Zealand, via Norfolk Island from Australia, when just before the 'point of no return' the starboard engine failed. The F-111 was deployed to escort the aircraft back to Australia and had to fly with undercarriage lowered to reduce speed. Copied from a 35mm transparency original. The pilot and navigator of the Dakota were Flight Lieutenant Dale Webb and Flight Lieutenant Terrence Gardiner respectively. The pilot of the F-111 was Wing Commander Ray Funnell.
