Handwritten on the reverse of the print "F/L Shand DFC. 485 Sqd RNZAF. Who was lost on a Rhubarb over Holland, he was Flight Commander of B Flight. Fought through "the Battle of Britain" and had many great successes. He was lost in November 1943, but there may be a chance of him being a prisoner of war." NB. Shand was involved in The Great Escape while interred in Stalag Luft 3.

Handwritten on the reverse of the print "F/L Tony Robson DFC [incorrect - he only received a DFM] RNZAF. Tony was a fine pilot who fought through the 'Battle of Britain' [incorrect - he was still training at the time]. He did a great deal of sweeps over France & Belgium, and scored many successes. He was lost in February 1943 whilst on a sweep over the channel, 485 Sqd met roughly 80 huns and 24 aircraft against this amount did not have much chance. It is believed that Tony got two of the huns before they got him, but he went down in a great fight, he wouldn't have had it any other way. But out of this battle only 2 of 485 were lost and they got 4 huns."
