Original caption on the reverse of a print in the Simpson personal album collection (2007/179.30) reads: "Evening Press. From an R.N.Z.A.F. bomber squadron base in the forward Pacific, a New Zealand Ventura bomber leaves to unload yet another consignment of high explosive misery on the Japanese in the Bougainville area. Although the Dominion had long been represented with bomber-reconnaissance squadrons in the forward area, the Ventura squadron is our first offensive bomber unit. As armourers seated on bombs in the foreground evince, the squadron is in excellent fighting spirit following its recent successes."
