Air to surface view of a Seaplane Training Flight Walrus taxiing on rough water near Auckland.
Handwritten on the reverse "Air Sea Rescue."
This almost certainly relates to an incident on 28 September 1943 when a Walrus of the Seaplane training Flight, piloted by Flying Officer HA Nash rescued a downed Anson crew in the Tasman. Rough seas would not allow the aircraft to take off so he taxied nearly 40 miles to the shelter of Gannet Island where, sheltered from rough seas, he was able to take off. He was awarded the Air Force Cross.
